About Me
I am James Zheng, a data engineer who developed ocular neurological pain disorder after COVID. While taking disability leave to increase the dose of my nerve medication, I was also laid off. This gave me some time to reflect and truly understand the challenges dry eye patients have to face every day. I created Eyetabase because I want to reduce the friction of finding long-term treatment and help people like myself to find a balance between work and treatment.
With the advancement of technology like autonomous driving and AI, there is no better time to advocate for patients than now. What truly saddens me is how every company tries to justify their AI spending to improve profit, while mental and eye health is super underrepresented in the tech world. For example, many health care or websites claim to use AI to improve patient experience, yet they can't even get the color theme and accessibility design correct for patients and caregivers. I am not going to ramble about this so I will try to improve from the patient's perspective.
