Why is this important?

Dry eye conditions are becoming increasingly prevalent, yet many people don't recognize this growing trend. The evidence is clear when examining Google search trends for "dry eyes"—the problem is undeniably on the rise. Interestingly, there's a noticeable seasonal spike during winter months. This pattern likely occurs because cold temperatures cause the meibum (the oily substance that lubricates our eyes) to thicken, making it harder for our eye glands to produce the necessary oils. As a result, people experience increased dryness and turn to Google for answers.

My hypothesis is that increased screen time from computers and smartphones is contributing to eye damage, including dry eyes and nearsightedness. When people seek treatment for these conditions, they often turn to corrective surgeries like LASIK or PRK. However, these procedures can unfortunately lead to long-term nerve complications, including corneal neuralgia.

The challenge is that corneal neuralgia remains largely unknown to the general public. As you can see in the search trends below, public awareness is relatively low. Many patients initially mistake their symptoms for temporary dry eye irritation, not realizing they're dealing with a chronic condition that requires specialized resources and support—exactly what this platform aims to provide.
